Jamaican Jerk Off Jack Fruit

Get exotic with this spicy little recipe! It will definitely get you off with it's tantalizing, mouth-watering BBQ flavours. You won't feel guilty as Jack Fruit is bursting with healthy properties including antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and lots of fibre. It's a great meat-alternative and when done right it's pretty hard to tell the difference.

Ingredients

  • 1 can Jackfruit (in Brine not syrup) No Syrup
  • 1 tbsp Olive or Avocado Oil
  • 1 bunch Finely chopped Green Onions
  • 1 tbsp Ground Ginger
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tbsp Jamaican Jerk Spice
  • 2 tbsp BBQ Sauce or Tomato Paste
  • 2 tbsp Lime Juice
  • Cilantro (optional)
  • Lettuce (optional)
  • Diced Tomatos (optional)
  • Sour Cream (optional)
  • Buns, Rice or Tortillas (Your Choice)

Instructions

  1. To prepare the Jackfruit, open the cans and drain the jackfruit in a strainer. Rise and drain the Jackfruit thoroughly, removing any seeds.

  2. Shred the Jackfruit, by using your hands and a fork or knife to pull it apart into strands.

  3. Pre-heat pan and oil. We like to use Avocado Oil. Add the white parts of the onions, ginger, garlic and pinch of sale. Cook until the onions are translucent.

  4. Add the Jackfruit to the pan and stir. Cook for another 6 minutes, stirring occasionally until the Jackfruit has dried out a bit.

  5. Add the Jamaican Jerk Spice and combine with Jackfruit. Cook for another minute.

  6. Add the BBQ Sauce or Tomato Paste and Lime Juice and let simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until most of the liquid is cooked off. Mix in the green part of the onions.

  7. Let stand for 10 minutes to cool. Serve on top of your favorite hamburger or kaiser buns, rice or tortillas. Top with fresh vegetables like lettuce, tomatoes, cilantro, green onions or sour cream.
